hey panga. Ness used to be a guitarist - hence the pick. And yes she is the queen of bass. The best bassist ive seen (locally and Aus wide)

By the way. Come see Stellar at the Leederville this Sunday 5:30pm Help us win a gig at BDO 04 BTW im also a bass player, i use my fingers not a pick. Honestly you'll find that a lot of bass players have tried to play guitar before and got the pick action and didnt give it up when they changed to bass. Also a lot of music teachers swear by the pick. Dunno why. I also used to think pick using bassists were shit but then again i saw a fair few that were really good bassists. So really its a much of a muchness. Is Flea crap cos he occasionally uses a pick?

(being my first post here, I don't know if I'm meant to go to some special thread to introduce myself, so hi everyone anyway)
Vanessa is an absolute role model for me, Just because with all this fake commercial bullshit being thrust at us all the time now, she's someone who is so...kinda real and true and honest to her art, and also as a person. And she is also a great bass player and influenced me to learn bass (I got my bass two weeks ago). With the whole pick thing, I'm learning using fingers because my dad says 'that's the proper way', and pick is easier but fingers arent that bad, although I suppose with the strength then if you haven't played instruments before, then that'd be a problem. Anyway, maybe I should stop talking crap now...

my sis plays bass with her fingers and wont touch a pick with a 10 foot pole. it looks awesome with fingers plucking the string and you can generally move faster between notes and sometimes the aaction is more fluid... but personally ive got nothing against pics. i love them..i shred my fingers when i play otherwise. once i forgot to bring a pic, so i played with the only thing i could find on the floor: a 10 cent coin. that probably wasnt the best idea...

I'm sure you could have borrowed a pick or something at least... Better yet, use a finger or two, you never know, those things do come in handy some times.

I just wanted to say with regards to the pick debate what difference does it make if Ness, or anyone for that matter, decides to use one? Who gives three shits - in the end she is still contributing to the music we all love so much and it really makes no difference at all. Thats all I wanted to say. I'm going back to downloading porn and having cyber sessions with Mike creating my Josh O'Brien appreciation page now

We were just merely discussing the pros and cons Dave. My view on picks has changed somewhat, though 'tis not my cup of tea.
