courtney does have the right to do it, obviously, she's in control of his estate. but that doesn't mean that she should have. i agree with josha and also, do you mean she shouldnt have control of the estate or she shouldnt have publsihed them. becasue with the estate thing, well by marrying her and then dying it pretty much certained that she was going to have rights to all his things. and with the published... wlell kind fo same argument. oh and to pheobe over giving them tio frances bean. who says she would want to. would you want to read your dads diaries from when he was a kid.. i think i would cos itdbe inbteresting but... shucks i dont know. it just might mess her up a bit.

i've read a few books on Kurt since his death & it seems to be fairly common knowledge that he'd drawn up divorce papers & also a new will that i don't think included courtney. now that he's gone i think she's just of the mind that why shouldn't she make as much money off of him as possible as she clearly wasn't going to make it off of him while he was alive. to nirvana & the world of grunge, Hole would always come second best & i think she knew that. after all, its rumored kurt did have a lot of involvement with Live Thru This.. the albums before that were pretty raw & generally a lot less 'likeable' in my opinion. i've got the 'best of' cd aswell of nirvana which is pretty fucking dismal, another money spin. more like the 'most commercial'.. only 1 or 2 of the 'best' nirvana songs i'll get off my soap-box now!

I know this isn't relevant to the discussion but I think the point of view on the Hole albums or releases is subjetive. Mabe Kurt did help out on Live Throught this bet Billy Corgan helped on Celebrity skin. The style of music would have been pretty similar anyway. Personally I don't mind the bands older rawer stuff.
I see the journal issue kind of similar to Jeff Buckley. His parents release music of his that he had made as demos and private home recordings and he didn't want people listening to that.
As far as Kurt writing to other people it could have just been part of how he writes his diearies, doesn't mean he expected people to read them. I always write my own stuff thinking that mabe someone will read it, but I guess the difference is I wouldn't care so much and I'm not dead so my opinion counts more.

I think if i wrote a diary all about me i wouldnt want people to read it, until ofcourse i died. If i wrote a diary i would expect that some day people would read it because humanity cant help themselves, they are curious and that's the way it is. if i wrote all my thoughts down i think that would be the best way to be remembered by, i guess mainly because the thought of me not having an impact on the world scares me through and through. Kurt didnt need his diaries published to make his mark on the world because he did it through his music. Maybe it was wrong and un necessary to publish his soul thoughts, maybe it was for his memory, maybe its what he wanted. Because we dont know if Kurt wanted them read or not i guess we will never know what is "right" and whats "wrong"... each for their own i guess

yeah well i guess i changed after writing them, then when i went back and read them, i realised that i didnt feel the same way about those issues anymore and i wouldnt want anyone else to read them because it would portray a false me.

but dont you think that they wouldnt portray a false you because the you they portrayed was a real you just at a different time. it would show how you evolved and not make you so.., i dont know cardboard or without background cos they didnt know how you once were and how you improved or change.
