I just got the 'best of' recording of Nirvana. What I wanted to ask (I think Rollergirl may know this) is whether there is a big difference in the 're-recorded' version on the best of album of Pennyroyal Tea as compared to the 'In Utero' version. I heard the MTV version of Pennyroyal Tea and thought it was great, but the re-recorded version is the shit Im just curious as my next CD buy will most probably be 'In Utero'

haha you say nirvana are better than foo fighters yet you've only got greatest hits? but yeah MAKE SURE in utero is the next album you get, it is pure brilliance. Nevermind is just hair on In Utero's ass.

Ok,
Pennyroyal Tea (on the album In Utero) was a mix that Kurt wasn't happy with.
Pennyroyal Tea (on the WalMart (?)) clean version (ie: no "Rape Me" on the back slick) has the remixed version of Pennyroyal Tea that Kurt liked far better. This was released well after the regular album version.
The Pennyroyal Tea Single (rare as a muthafuckka) was released to promote the second leg of the European tour for In Utero. It was quickly pulled from shelves by Geffen reps (as opposed to the stores mailing them back) once Kurt was found dead. It was rather useless to promote a tour that clearly wasn't going to happen.
The Best Of has the remixed version, which wasn't hard to get (thanks to the WalMart release) but wasn't well-known about. This is Kurt's preferred version.
Also of note is the fact that the Best of version of Pennyroyal Tea has likely been remastered (I think the whole CD was - CD being Best of, not In Utero) so what is on the Best Of is a remixed, remastered version of what was on In Utero, although new parts may have been recorded for the remixed version, but I'm not too sure.
God I'm good.

Yes, "good". The fact that Wal-mart is mentioned 3 or 4 times lends to my theory that you copy and pasted that from somewhere else.

Nope, didn't copy and paste it. Just wrote my trains of thought down. So, once again (for armon)... "God I'm good" FYI (and for those armons who cannot count) Walmart was written twice my original post. Also, I wasn't sure if it was walmart (hence the ? after the first mention), I just knew it was definately a US chain store). But I do advise www.digitalnirvana.net if you wanna check any stuff up. Great site, esp. for bootlegs.

Can't believe he doesn't own bleach. I mean jesus, I had all the nirvana albums in 1994 (well... what was released then, anyway).
No accounting for taste.
And yes, Nirvana shit on the Foos, but that's not exactly too much of a diss for the Foos, is it?

I got In Utero and Bleach today, both for $30 Pennyroyal Tea sounds similar. I might need to listen to it closer though.

Bleach is great. Raw, powerful, with great bass lines.
Apparently the ever delayed box set has lots of Bleach-esque stuff to it, so yays for that!
