I know a few people did not think much of the third Jebs album - thats cool, everyones entitled to their own opinion. What I wanna know is why people feel this way. Personally, I like the third album. Considering the first 2 albums were brilliant, the third album was still pretty decent. Had I not heard Fall Down, I would have not gotten into the Jebs, thus I would never have joined these boards, and the lives of many here devoid of such a cultural symbol of stupidity and foolishness.
Seriously, why dislike #3?

chances are this will drag on, but you asked... Everlong, it may be hard for you to understand why album #3 dissapoints me as it was the one that got you into jebs. But i started liking the band back when Jerks Of Attention was being played on recovery everyweek. Slightly Odway was the album that got me into music. Of Someday Shambles was musically advanced from SO and was a bit removed from the more JJJ styled 'alternative' music of that point of time which Odway had catered to. When they toured America for that album, it got me to check out a lot of the bands they played with over there and find out about a type of music which i was previously ignorant to. I think the use of Mark Trombino in control of OSS was the reason for the end product being that step away from the stylings of mainstream music without losing the pop element. And although i dont expect a band to stay with the same sound from album to album, i do think that #3 was a step in the wrong direction on a whole. There are some strong songs on it; Yesterday When I Was Brave, If You Want It, Nothing Lasts Forever and a few others, but in general i find a lot of the songs have a feeling that they've just been slapped together with effects added to give a fuller sound, yet somewhere (yes i know this may sound lame) the heart has been lost. ..i now like the music i listen to, to be something more than a pleasing background noise. In no way do I think that the band is crap...they've made some of my favourite pieces of music and are definately still capable of making more good music. I just didn't find anything on album #3 that appealed me.

hmmm well i dont dislike the album, but i rate it #3 out of the 3 albums. songs i enjoy on the album - Nothing lasts forever, Eveready, Yesterday when i was brave, (r)october and baltic ballet Mostly because of the production of the record.... i dunno, i find fall down a little bit tooo teeny bopperish for me personally... but yeah

I can see what you are both saying. I believe the third album to be #3 out of the released ones, but it just appeared that there was a certain amount of dislike to the album. Thanks for just stating your case.

It's very different sounding... i still like the other ones better but once this one grows on you it's very hard to shake it! i guess recently it's happend with a lot of bands where the most recent album is really ... shall we say... dodgy... like Echolalia, Diorama, sum of the new greenday stuff etc... lots of ppl don't really like it because it's so different from past albums or too similar! i guess that's just the way it is.

Okay... agreed but is the reason Jebediah #3 is a little dissapointing because perhaps we expected better... music wise... or have they "changed" musically in a way that is offputting?

well the change that occured from OSS --> #3, is definately in a different direction than the change from SO --> OSS. but that's not to say that all changes in a musical direction are bad...for example, Cave In's old beyond hypophermia (sp) stuff to Jupiter is a major progression for the better. Even beastie boys Egg Raid on mojo days are long gone for a different direction. Not that jebediah's change is as radical as either of those examples...but the point i'm trying to make is...forgotten, i'm tired.... to put it simply, i was dissapointed with album #3...i didn't expect it to be better than OSS, i just would've liked to have been able to say that i found it to be good.

Cool... You explain yourself very very well! Can i have your opinion on Diorama?

i haven't heard much of diorama...although have been meaning to check it out a bit more...Neon Ballroom is my favourite silverchair album (although, as i said, i haven't had much of a listen to diorama..might put it on tomorrow) so i'm definately not scared of their change away from their earlier stuff. Although from what i've heard of Diorama through my sister's walls, i think it could take me some getting used to.

Neon Ballroom is the shisnit.
#3 bores me except for YWIWB and Country Holiday Song. The shameless use of effects gives the whole record an extremely harsh feel, and sometimes over the top - yet every one song on the album feels so brittle it could snap in a second. It's not as if I hate the band now either, SO got me into music, just like Micheal. OSS was brilliant (ROTC, Skin, Slot Car Racing, Star Machine, In Orbit HELLO!) I liked OSS because the direction changing showed that Jebediah could be a more mature band capable of writing really high quality songs. #3 seems to be a step in a much more simplistic direction, like they were selling themselves short. OSS = the shisnit.

I like all three albums and have never stated otherwise. But although I like three I do think there is a few too many effects thrown in but I still listen to it as much or more than many of my other CDs. In certain moods every song off the album appeals to me, including Fall Down, sometimes you've just gotta pull your head out of your arse and dance!
