the mars volta

everyone's quite swept away by all the hype about sparta at the moment, but it seems that the mars volta aren't really getting the same attention...and although sparta are rather cool, i have to say that the mars volta are so much fucking better.

both bands are spawned from the break-up of at the drive-in so god damn, if that isn't enough of a reason to listen out for them, i don't know what is. i've only downloaded a couple of tracks over the last few days after hearing nothing but rave reviews from some of my friends...but they were right. best stuff i've downloaded in ages.

i'm not sure when/if a release is going to come out in australia, but seriously, get downloading or something...and if you've heard them already...what do you think?

the mars volta are pretty fucking good.
i dont think they have local distribution..or if they do i dont think the tremulaunt EP is out yet, but i picked up an import copy of the vinyl a few months ago from missing link and it's definately one of the best releases I've bought in a while.

Dont listen expecting to hear ATD-I, sure on the surface they sound quite similar, but there's so many other noises going on in the background it really adds another element to the sound that you really gotta concentrate to appreciate.

Add to this the fact that the vinyl was on very sexy yellow marble vinyl and featured rather cool inscription of "Relax bros, we're all bad-ass actors here".
only 3 songs but it goes for around 19 (may be wrong) minutes...

The Mars Volta are here and they're not leaving until they own your ass...which realy shouldn't take long.

(also to mention sparta, they'll be here in october...playing livid and a few other gigs around the place)

both are blowing up little by little here

personally i like sparta better but i'm not overly impressed w/ either of them.
