Post Modernism is crap.
How can we live in such a technelogical age yet can't come up with new, original ideas, especially regarding the arts.
I'm sick of seeing movies that are either sequels or adaptions of other texts. Has Hollywood gone mad or is this simply a product of big money and little inspiration. It's scandalous how much money actors are being paid to make absolute shit these days. Sure not all of these movies are shit but every movie that makes a few dollars is followed up by a terrible terrible sequel. So far the magic of the 80's (lol) hasn't been revisited. Could you imagine Scary Movie being made into heaps of films like Police Acadamy or Revenge of the Nerds? Sure some of these adaptions are good, I watched and enjoyed the movie He Died With a Felafal In His Hand again today however it appears as if every comic book, novel, fairy tale, cartoon and biography is being followed up by a film. Come on Scooby Doo, Ned Kelly (aggaaiin), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer ect please, make it stop.
This concept of post-modernism isn't only being approached in movies however. History, literature, art and music are all being invaded.
Has anyone noticed that when they put on a cd these days they think oh wait, this sounds liek this band and this sounds like this band. I know this is a bad analogy but my dad was playing Mermaid Avenue, today (an album made by Billy Bragg and Wilco where they have written songs to some lyrics by Woody Guthrie) anyway he walked in during a particular song and got all confused because he thought it was the Whitlams. Yes, that was a crap analogy. No band is safe. Look at all these bloody punk and rock revivals, esp punk. Even When listening to say Ricochet I can't get past a certain section of the song where I feel it sounds alot like Big Heavy Stuff.
Don't even get me started on fashion.
Art, ok so I don't mind Post Modernisn so much in art but if one more person does anouther appropriation of Marylin Monroe I will be forced to go on a psyco rampage and destroy every Monroe painting, photo out there.
A little Post Modernism is ok but we need to develope our own style as well rather than being sucked up into the history vacume.
Anyway, does any one else find the word jolly really funny. People should use it more often, it makes me laugh. It reminds me of Santa laughing with his belly wobbling like jelly. Then I think of lime jelly and although I'm off the topic I'm still laughing.
