Hey all,
I was wondering, for those that have made a website before, what program did you use to create it? I want to make one, but Netscape composer is only pretty basic, and im looking for something thats 'what you see is what you get' kinda thing. Any suggestions?
spank you,

try Microsoft Frontpage (often comes as part of Office).
If you need a copy, lemme know, I can prolly mail you out a copy sometime.
PM me if you are interested.

I've used this program called "Cool Pages" it's very basic. Pretty much drag and drop, cut n paiste thing. I downloaded it from the net, but you only get a trial copy that you can't publish with. You have to buy it to be able to publish. BUt i got a copy of that also got a copy of Dreamweaver which is rather good, but i've never used it.

i like dreamweaver best. DreamWeaver UltraDev, or the new MX version, is my preferred option as it allows you to work with ASP, ColdFusion and...uhh..something else. But to publish websites like that, you need a server that supports them and it does cost money. Although you can just use it normally and not have to pay for special hosting.
i haven't used Front Page in years, but when i did use it, certain features would use their own type of scripting which the host server would have to have enabled for it to work. Some servers charge for that to be enabled, but i'm not sure if that's still the case.

id say use dreamweaver....its what i use. really user-friendly to handle...you can get the "what you see is what you get" mode as well as the html mode, or both. and that helps if you want to add images or links to things that are in html code. theres buttons to add things like flash ect.. to upload onto the net, you should get a ftp program and you can always find servers that will host for free (in exchange, theyll put lots of annoying banners on your page, but its sorta worth it anyway)...i forgot which server i use but ill check with my tech guy and get back to you if you want.

i create my site manually with html coding, and then upload everything with an FTP program...smartFTP is the best. super easy to use.

maybe go to geocities. they're alright for putting up reasonably big sites for free, it's just you don't get domain name. it's like www.geocities.com/....................... but hey it's free.

I think the domain that I have currently is just with yahoo geocities, and thats pretty simple to use and upload. I had a copy of dreamweaver - think I still do, but it looked pretty daunting to use. I'll give it a whirl again and see what I can come up with.
Thanks for the suggestions - keep 'em coming...

I use notepad... Its pretty complex stuff might take some getting used to.
I'm not into the wysiwyg thing. If you decide to do it your self a cool program is textpad, it colours stuff so you can see if you have closed thing and got keywords right.
And you can use it for java, c++ and c. Probabally more but I prefer them
