i'm just wondering what the musical attributes a song or band must have to be classified "emo" i'm mean you see a wide range of bands being labelled "emo", but what would people consider to be needed to make a band/song "emo"??
(haha, and yes, alex, i did see your comments about trying to avoid a music generfication war..i'm just interested in views...not starting arguments on it)

Ahhh, an Indie rock girl! Apple Gerl, you are my hero! A "discussion" over what is classified as 'emo' is very dangerous. I don't think there has ever been 2 people who can agree on exactly what it is. Everyone has their own ideas on it, all kinda similar, but never the same. But I did stumble on a website, it's pretty funny, it tries to explain emo... www.fourfa.com/

i think the problem here is that half the bands being mentioned aren't 'emo' they are indeed indie rock. but people just don't realise it because of god knows what dumb preconceptions they may have of emo. so in conclusion what we have here: all these preconceptions = a hell of a lot of confused people listening to indie rock but thinking its emo... goodness me...
