Heya all,
I had to do a top 20 of the films of 2002, so I figured why not get the HMJ board's opinion.
Post away, film had to be theatrically released in Australia in 2002. No ifs, ands, or buts.
01. Ghost World 02. Donnie Darko 03. Mulholland Drive 04. Royal Tenenbaums, The 05. Bully 06. Bowling for Columbine 07. Panic Room 08. Death to Smoochy 09. Road to Perdition 10. Cat's Meow, The 11. Y Tu Mama Tambien 12. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 13. Gosford Park 14. From Hell 15. O 16. Insomnia 17. Signs 18. Red Dragon 19. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The 20. Minority Report
'twas a pretty shit year indeed...

Spiderman was lacking substance (though hey, it's nice to know Sam "The Evil Dead" Raimi is making a good honest living). I mentioned Gosford Park (no.13). I havent seen the Cohen Bros flick, but I kinda have an aversion to their films. Great films but I dunno... find them hard to enjoy - its definately a personal thing. Haven't seen I Am Sam or About A Boy yet... been slack to be honest. Episode 2 was a video game cut scene. Shame really.

i thought spiderman was pretty good, it thought it managed to keep a very comic book feel.
i love the cohen bros. they make movies i could watch a million times and want more of.
man, you have to see about a boy. it was so godamn funny i went and saw it 3 times.
i want argue with you about episode 2, your entitled to your opinion and i think everyone has a different thought on it.
but your top 20 was pretty well spot on.

Episode 1 was utter garbage.
Episode 2 was better, but still a far cry from Star Wars, Empire, or Jedi.
I think my major issue with Epiosde 2 was the amount of all-digital work that just didn't look convincing. Backgrounds that look fake, etc, were totally distracting to the film.
I just rewatched Donnie Darko 2nite. Goddamn that is a good movie.

I didn't watch too many movies in twenty-02, but one I did like was Garage Days.
Blurred was funny due to the 2 yobbo guys. Reminds me of me and Enis, except we're not in our mid 20's, don't pretend to be yr 12 graduates at schoolies, or wear flannalette in public.

i liked garage days just because both the cure and the violent femmes were in the soundtrack (totally tubular). but kick gurry or whatever his name is can't act for shit. did you guys see him in that episode of young lions, he was pretty bogus man. whereas i am too cool for school. speaking of which i live across the road from my old high school and today i woke up to the sounds of them finishing their first day ( i can't believe i use to get up at 7:30 in the morning). my favourite past time is yelling abuse at the parents who honk their horns out the front of the school.

'donnie darko', 'bowling for columbine' and 'y tu mama tambien' are easily some of the best films i've ever seen in my life. they're brilliant.
'mulholland drive' was pretty cool too, i thought. david lynch rocks.

'Bowling For Columbine'. I don't rate 'Amelie' that high.

Apple: I have rewatched Donnie Darko like 4 times this week. I could never get enough of it. Columbine is possibly my favourite doco of all time, and Y Tu Mama Tambien was the best half price film I have ever been to. Stunning cinematography, beautiful story, incredible film.
- oh, and David Lynch is god. I want to go to Twin Peaks...
ALYCESAN: you deserve a never-ending stream of Motorace and Lash concerts. And if you like the sound of that, well, all hope is lost.
