like the new ben harper stuff and the new frenzal stuff. some people say that ben harper lyrics are crap cos their all about oppression etc and well.. since when is ben harper oppressed?? also people say frenzal suck 1) cos there is a ten year difference between lindsay and the new bassist and 2) which links to one in that they are too old to be making the kind of music they are making... especially with the lyrics. one of their songs is about how much he hates his mum. HE'S THIRTY! not that that is my opinion or anything  DISCUSS> |

1.) Don't have anything against Ben Harper or lyrics against opppression.
2.) Don't like the Frenzal Stuff. I liked coughing up a storm a while ago and some of the songs of a mans like a camel but now it's just shit. It's changed alot and isn't as fresh (can't think of a better word) now their music just seems boring and bland. Fuck the age difference, that's got nothing to do with anything.

i don't mind the new frenzal song punisher. yeah their sound is a lot more accessible than it was 5 years back, but as a band i don't have a problem with them. lindsay is the funniest person i have ever tripped across [and any interview with him is worth hearing just for that], and jay is never afraid to give his two cents on political issues, which is more than can be said for some artists who are afraid/against speaking up.

so is it not ok that he writes about things that mean something to him?
does it matter that he wasn't oppressed? i don't think so.
if people are gonna dislike his music for the reason that he isn't oppressed, then blergh, stop speaking shit

i like ben harper's stuff, but just coz he has one song called oppression doesn't really mean he's oppressed as such... how about with my own two hands? that's conveying a positive message...sooooo
i don't mind frenzal i heard one of their new songs on JJJ the other day, it was OK

okay my original post as a guest wasnt my personal opinion its just what id heard people saying and i was divided as to whetehr ia greed so i figured id hear more in depth argument about it and then decide.
so dont yell at me.
i dont like frenzals music becasue its boring and blad and shit. all there old stuff was so fantastic and now its like they've commercialised themselves and i dont like their new stuff. and i do think that at 30 singing a song abour your mum is a bit sad.
i like some of ben harpers music but like sam said he is kinda arrogant in his music and of course i dont know him personally but... some of the stuff he sings is so bullshit. ive got nothing wrong with him singing songs that area hppy or sad or whatever but i dont think its fair that he makes money out of singing about other people having it tough. like if he does charity donations or whatsit then you know whatever thats cool but.. shit i dont kow. i just think hes a bit of a fuck. i love susie blue though. one of my favourite songs.
ooh heres more discussion. is jack johnson just a try hard ben harper?
