i have 3 weeks till a 4000 word assignment is due. i really need help. i know i don't know any of you, but i figured somebody might help me. my topic is: do japanese people have more problems socialising at university than native Australian English speakers? i've asked most people at uni, including people from the japanese club to do a short survey for me, but for some reason they just don't feel like responding to my questions... so if any of you know people who are japanese then i'll send you a survey to send them - i'm in bad bad need of help... errk

hope you also realised that in not "responding to your questions" they're proving your point.
As a result of a different background. They have different aims at that point in life.... well you cant say "they" but well ...most of em... just focus on getting through uni and then after theyve settled down on a job. Something about the "traditional japanese order of life".
But, im not sure if thats anythign to do with their language. Just being japanese doesnt make them bad english (engrish) speakers...

"Is fwied wice you pwick" riiight...thanks but no thanks. in a university assignment i need to prove a hypothesis - not a point. and writing "Japanese students at *blah blah* university were too lazy to answer survey questions, therefore proving the theory that japanese students have more problems socialising at uni than standard australian english speaking students do... " all it would prove is that i know how to fail well. and please, don't talk about something if you haven't got a clue what you're on about, its just embarassing, and demonstrates your ignorance towards other cultures.

youre right, i had no clue =P i tried to help though.. and thats what... matters? ... in my aimless wandering over the internet, i found somethings which you might find usefull: jin.jcic.or.jp/nipponia/nipponia9/sp03.htmlstats on japanese marriage. (youll note that the pictures are obviously from western weddings because the japanese like the chinese belive white to be bad luck... ) www.culture-at-work.com/jpnlinks.htmljust all round aspects of japanese life. www2b.biglobe.ne.jp/~shohei/ch3.htmand some stuff on general socializing in western cultures... hope they help... and sorry for any waste of time... i wouldnt know much about uni, and i have no clue how to write a hypothesis but see...thats why its not my assignment =P... besides im sure youll figure it out... thanx for the flame btw: it put an obviously useless and uninformative quote form lethal weapon in its place ;D

If you have a psychology database that is at your library (it may be online), look for journal articles on that topic. What you will find is data that other researchers have compiled that you can use to prove or disprove your hypothesis.
Try PSYCINFO if you can find it online. You can get a shitload of articles online there.
