'This is selling out (pointing at a pic of Superheist on the front of a Sanity bag), having your picture on the front of a bag promoting Pepsi to sell more Pepsi..' who agrees?....i sure as hell do!, sellin out isn't about the music u write.....it's about what you do with it that has nothing to do with music I totally disagree. As *you* said, it's about the music, and this sort of advertising has nothing to do with the music, so i couldn't give a rats ass. They do it for money, but what's wrong with working for money? I find it more offensive (you can call it selling out or whatever you want)when a band becomes "applause happy" and directs their music to achieve the best or most audience response. To me, this is selling out, pretending to be an artist but writing music with sole or major intentions of being popular. Instead, music should be an expression, an art, and neither of these two things should depend on how many people like what your doing. If you do become famous or popular as a result of making music for those good reasons, that is fine, and is usually a sign of talent and is well desrerved. But the best bands ever throughout history made their music without caring how popular they became, and i think you can still do that irrespective of whether or not you are endorsing products for bucket loads of money. They are not related at all.

ina way i agree with both angles and i cant believe one little comment i made started all this, selling out, in my first thought was changing the style of your music in order to make more mulla($). but now i think that selling out is also being sponsered by a corporate company, but then again who isnt these days? i think that anyone who lets a company quash their ways of thinking, controls their destiny or tells them what to drink (despite of their preferences, in britney spears case, hahaha) should have their head read and rethink why they started playing music in the first place, was it for the sole intention of making money or was it as an expression of who they are and to show a piece of themselves through their talent (and in some cases lack of). then i could go on about how some bands are relying on the basis of their image, but that would have another whole huge debate, now wouldnt kids?

well with that superheist thing, they've not changed their music at all, and the ads are giving them jack-all exposure, maybe just provoking a little interest from the odd person. When i see that ad it doesn't make me want to go and listen to superheist. It just makes me want to see a tv show with dylan lewis in it thats on at a time that im not asleep.
also, the green day thing. They've not sold out. Warning is an experiment. It was completely done on acoustic guitars with overdrive. The band wanted to try out something new. Not change. When you're in a band you should be able to do whatever the fuck you want without having your fans disrespect it. You've got to remember that usually bands aren't writing the music for the fans, they write it for themselves and their own enjoyment. I reckon it would get a little boring releasing albums that all sound the same ten years straight too. Listen to the new tracks on International Superhits. They're just as rockin' as ever.

im not sayin that i dont respect green day any more, hell i got the new album! im just saying that this album has got more "radio friendly" songs on it! im saying that dramatic change in the way that bands play their music is questionable. and i no that if you listen to all of the jebs three (well soon to be) albums that there is a change in the sound, its more mature and you can hear that they are on a leaning curve with each album, but you can hear the music evolving and it is still undeniably them, but with some other bands you listen to them and you think, wat the fuck happened to you? ? then you have to question why they are doing it, ok maybe they wanted to change, or maybe they are after da $, who nos and i suppose i am speculating, but its my opinion
